Highly recommended if you want to learn about lean, agile, modern project management, leading and motivating teams or reviewing and extending your scrum practices, even if you are not directly interested in the software development part of the story.

There is one drawback. I’m actually pleased that I didn’t read this when I was a fresh starter with Agile and Lean. There are a few anecdotes that are a bit weak, and toolmit of the charts are laughably and almost insultingly unscientific, but the general principles are sound.

Clarify Purpose Great companies are not in business to make money, they make money to stay in business and accomplish an important purpose. Main benefit for me it that it takes the discussion of project-level practices and poppsndieck the importance and the ‘why’s of those practices in a way that touches the mindset of high-level managers, directors, and even maybe the executive level of organizations.
You can have all three- if you adopt the same lean principles that have already revolutionized manufacturing, logistics and product development.
Xevelopment, cheaper, faster software development. Next to that, in contains some real life examples showing one way on how devdlopment tools can be applied in practice. While it doesn’t come natural for many engineers, the authors strongly recommend the need of retrospectives and feedback which are important to course correct early and often.

Much has been learned in Toyota about how to streamline product development an I’m working my way through the classics on Lean and Agile methods, I have met the great Tom and Mary and was extremely impressed and since this was selected for my book club, then here we are – another classic ticked off.
